The following list represents those ministries & small group studies currently available through the church. If you have a passion to start another one please contact one of the pastoral staff.


Andover Sub-acute and Rehab Center.  Assist the chaplain with religious services, provide companionship and use any other gifts you may have with the residents of this 700 bed facility.   Contact Chaplain Nestor or Keith Keoppel, Church Office

Blessed Beginnings - Blessed Beginnings is a non-profit Preschool and Kindergarten.  Our programs provide a wonderful experience supported and enhanced by a Christian atmosphere, where a child's intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development can be nurtured. Bread Ministry.  Day old bread and pastries are picked up from local bakeries, then repackaged before delivery to local food pantries, low income housing units and, soup kitchens. Contact Maria Rath

Bread of Life Ministry.  Every Saturday this ministry provides lunch, clothing, prayer and worship to the less fortunate in Memorial Park, Newton.   Contact Bruce Piper

Brookside Ministry, Newton.  Ministry to the 500 residents of this HUD Housing development provides companionship and demonstrates Christ’s Love.  Monthly knitting ministry, worship, and weekly Bible studies are among the activities.  FPCS provided the computer lab, a lending library and sponsors an on-site Christian presence with our program coordinator.       Bible Study Contact El McMeen,   Knitting Contact Jan Pontzer,   All other, Pastor Tom, Church Office or Janell Carr, on-site

Children and Youth Ministries.  Many opportunities for teaching or assist in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, or Youth programs.  LOGOS Ministry is held every Sunday evening throughout the school year for children and youth (K-12th grade).  Divided by age group, each group participates in Bible study, worship skills, recreation and dinner.  Assistance in food preparation or activities is always welcome.

Christ Line.  Two-minute devotions and prayer are recorded daily for benefit of callers. Contact Margaret Plevin, Church Office

Faith Builders.  An outgrowth of our mission trips to Mississippi, this ministry provides home repairs to those in our community who otherwise would not be able to afford them.  Recently, they have concentrated on the homes of those serving in the military.  Contact John Tiensch

Food Pantry.  Demands on the county’s largest food pantry continue to escalate. Volunteers needed to pack bags and also pick up food supplies from distribution centers.        Contact Jan Ernsting

Furniture Ministry.  This unique ministry matches donated furniture with those in need.  Volunteers with strong backs and a truck always welcome.                                                Contact Maria Rath

Hospitality Ministry.  Love to cook or help in the kitchen?  This ministry may be just for you in assisting with church function meals.                                                                            Contact Carol Bennett

House of Mercy Mission MinistryFPCS volunteers go to this street mission in Newark one Saturday a month to prepare and serve lunch to the needy, as well as take part in worship and prayer.

Loving Arms Ministry.  Provides housing and loving Christian care to women with unplanned pregnancies.  Volunteers are always welcome to assist in transportation and companionship.      Contact Connie or Keith Keoppel, Church Office

Manna House Ministry.  Lunches are prepared and served each weekday in the First Presbyterian Church of Newton to the homeless and disadvantaged.  Various area churches each take a turn (about once a month).          Contact Gail Shawger

Meal Preparation Ministry.  During times of family crisis one of the most welcome gifts that a family can receive are hot meals.  Another set of hands is always welcome.         Contact Diane Rodgers

Media Ministry Team - This professional-level team welcomes those interested in the ever increasing demands for audio and visual technical support of our worship services. Contact David Pontzer

Mission Field Trips.  Mission Council sponsors at least one trip annually to provide servants the experience of working for others in the cause of Jesus.  In the past there have been trips to rural Kentucky and Haiti.  More recently, several trips have been made to Mississippi to assist in the reconstruction of the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.     Contact Joe Lacopo

Music Ministry.  Opportunities abound for those with vocal or instrumental gifts in our chancel choir, Praise and Worship bands and Hand bell choir. Hand bells, Contact Nancy Claus        All other Music, Contact Karen McEver, Church Office

Newton Memorial Hospital.  As a chaplain’s assistant you may visit and pray with those members who are hospitalized or with any other patients.    Contact Chaplain Randy Parks    or Margaret Plevin, Church Office

Office Volunteer.  Assist in the office with copying, assembly and other tasks. Contact Diane Tiensch, Church Office

Prayer and Healing Ministry.  Do you possess the Gift of Healing?  Or don’t know, but want to develop it?  You may become a part of one of the prayer teams participating in one of the semi-monthly Prayer & Healing services, or one of the prayer teams which visit hospitals and rehab centers. Prayer Vine & Praise Vine Ministry – Your gift of prayer can also be used in this daily email prayer ministry. Contact Marilyn Litteer

Rummage Sale.  Volunteers are always welcome at this semi-annual event in which the community donates no longer needed clothing and housewares.  Over and above the sale, over 300 needy families benefit on give-away day, and at least one truckload of clothing is sent to Goodwill Home and Mission, Newark.     Contact Helen Reigstad

SCIHN (Sussex Co. Interfaith Hospitality Network Ministry)
. This organization is supported by county churches.  Each church undertakes the responsibility to house the homeless for one week, providing meals and beds, about once every 8 weeks. Contact Cheryl Pittinger

Special Needs Worship Service.  A dedicated worship for the developmentally and/or physically challenged is held every Sunday morning in the Church Parlor.  Personal assistance or transportation is always welcome.   Contact Rick Bolger

Transportation Ministry.  Servants are needed to transport those unable to drive to doctor appointments, shopping, etc. or to church!      Contact Margaret Plevin, Church Office

Usher Ministry.  Put your gift of hospitality to use. The first person many see upon entering the church is a warm and welcoming usher.  Good way to meet the membership too.   Contact Don Saxe

Wrapped in Love.  Members knit prayer shawls and infant hats and sew quilts which are given to those in need of being “Wrapped in God’s Love”.        Contact Helen Reigstad
