Guide | Register for Preschool | Register for Kindergarten |
Kindergarten is an exciting time in a young
child's life. We at Blessed Beginnings Kindergarten want to welcome them
into their first primary school experience. The areas of instruction such
as social skills, listening and academic i.e. beginning reading, math
and phonemic awareness, will help establish a solid educational foundation
for future learning experiences. This guide is intended to give an overview
of the topics that are covered in the core curriculum areas of language
arts, math, science, social studies, physical education and the arts.
Dear Parents,
Today is a very exciting time for
your child to begin school. Your children will be learning many different
things by asking questions, using manipulatives, exploring, listening
and learning by doing.
The curriculum is taught by a theme
basis. The themes will change on a weekly rotation. The directed task
centers and the free exploration centers will change according to the
theme. This allows for exciting and creative learning. We want each
child to meet with success and develop to their highest potential. Listed
below are some easy ways you can share experiences with your children
to assist in their learning.
TALK - Every conversation
you have with your child stimulates their minds and helps develop a
vocabulary. Ask them questions as to what they may have learned about
our current theme. For example, "What book did you listen to today
in the listening center?"
PLAY - Games help your children
to share and can also assist in developing their eye-hand coordination;
i.e., playing cards, running races, musical chairs, hopscotch, jump
rope, etc.
ENCOURAGE INDEPENDENCE -
When your children learn to do small tasks for themselves, they develop
a positive self-image. With positive support from the parent, children
experience success and become independent learners and achievers.
READ - Reading with your
children helps develop their imaginations and love for books and allows
them to become familiar with book language.
WRITE - Writing a simple
sentence about a picture or story helps to integrate and develop reading
and writing skills.
