Blogging FAQs

  • What is a Blog? A blog is a place on the website where you can put your opinions, thoughts, points for discussion, or just about anything else including images and links. It is also a place where you can read what others have to say and add comments to their postings.

  • What Blogs Do We Have on www.fpcsparta.org? We have several blogs:
    • The Open Mic Forum - Open Mic is a public forum monitored by Pastor Tom. He and others will promply respond to your questions or comments placed here. You will need a password to post a blog on Open Mic, but its easy to get one, just click on the Request Password link on the blog page.
    • The Worship Team Blog - This is a private blog for the use of the Worship Team. If your a member of the Worship Team, you can request a password on the sign-in page.
    • The Media Team Blog - This is also a private blog for use by the Media Team.
    • The Session Blog - Also a private blog for the Session Members to discuss issues. If your a session member you can request access to this area of our website via the sign-in page.

  • How Do I Do It ? Once you get to the blog click on "Add a Blog" link near the top of the page, or to post a comment to someone else's blog, click on the "comment link" below the blog entry on which you would like to add a comment.

This works just a bit differently for Open Mic, here click on the "Post a New Message" link at the top of the page to make a new entry. To comment on an existing entry in Open Mic, click on the entry itself, then click on the "Post Followup" at the top of the page to post a comment.

  • How Do I Know if Someone has Added a Blog? This part is optional, but its nice to set up your computer to automatically collect news, podcasts, and blog entries. For the Open Mic forum you can click on the link at the top of the page to "sign up" to receive an email if somthing is added to the forum.

For all of the other Blogs, (and podcasts) you can monitor them with any news agregator. Links to the RSS feeds for our blogs are the orange colored boxes below. If you don't know what a news aggregator is or how to use an RSS feed, visit our page: Help with Podcasting, it turns out that the same aggregators that are used to collect your podcasts can be used to collect news including new postings to any of our blogs.
    • The Worship Team Blog - (not a link, help)
    • The Media Team Blog - (not a link, help)
    • The Session Blog - (not a link, help)

  • How Do I Get a Blog for My Group? Simple, just email the WebServant and ask for one, they are easy to set up. You will be up and running with your own group blog in no time.

  • Can I put images and links in my blog? Yes, with the exectption of Open Mic, the blogs support images, links and other formatting, but this requires some knowledge of the html language. If you have some familiarity with it and would like to give it a try, here is what you need to do to put an image in your blog. Upload the images to the ftp site [ http://www.doxanet.net/ftpzone/ ] using any ftp client, and then insert them into the blog using standard html. It is best to refer to the image files using the root url which is "http://www.doxanet.net/FTPzone/filename".

  • Can I edit my blog once it is posted? The short answer is no. However, if you email the WebServant, he will be able to make changes for you or help you add images or links.
